BETTY SCARPINO DEMONSTRATION AGENDA

Saturday, January 27th     8:30 AM to 4 PM

Betty will begin with a brief slide/talk presentation.  This will set the stage for discussing different techniques and also design considerations.  This will be an interactive presentation, encouraging lots of discussion with the club members.  The discussion period is followed by Betty's demonstration of her techniques for turning grooves, making a pod turning, bleaching, texturing, coloring, and carving. There will be additional  discussion and demonstration on the safe use of the bandsaw for making initial cuts on turned objects.

Sunday, January 28th       9 AM to 4 PM

The second day will be a HANDS-ON event for those who want to try out the Saturday's demonstrated techniques and any other ideas that were generated during the discussion.  Because much of what is covered is not directly related to the lathe work, it's crucial that turners try out these techniques on their own turned work, as it leads to discovery!  MEMBERS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HANDS-ON SESSION SHOULD BRING AT LEAST ONE TURNED, BUT
UNFINISHED, PIECE FOR THE SUNDAY SESSION. A FLATTENED SAUCER SHAPE SIMILAR TO THE OIL LAMPS WE HAVE BEEN TURNING WOULD BE EXCELLENT FOR THIS SESSION. Bring your Dremel or carving tools, and experiment with bleaching, carving, coloring, and surface enhancements. There will be planty of room for our "shy" members to observe the techniques that others will be trying, but the best lessons are learned by personal experimentation while you can ask questions, see immediate results, and share information.

This 2-day demo will be held at Sue Thomas’ shop, 17300 Durrance Road, just north of the river in Ft. Myers. Please pull down the driveway and in behind the house to park by the shop.
You should bring your own lunch, or plan to purchase from the local deli during the lunch break.
Also, please bring your own chair.

Mail your reservation form and payment to WSWF Treasurer Steve Duncan,
1241 Royal Tern Drive, Punta Gorda, Florida 33950    941-639-1796
